Day 7: Saturday, April 7th
I CRUSHED it today! I am very proud of myself, even though I am still behind on my total word count goal. To-date, this is the most I’ve written in one day on this book and it felt amazing!
I woke up super exhausted and was not in the mood to write, but I buckled down for several hours and managed to crank out 2,000 words. Posting updates on my Instagram stories helped me hold myself accountable as several people were checking in on me to see my progress throughout the day. It’s a lot harder to procrastinate when other people are watching.
My writing strategy all day was to do a combination of quick scene plotting with word sprints and it worked! One of my biggest struggles with this first draft has been getting bogged down in a scene and spending too much time writing and rewriting it. Like I mentioned in my Camp NaNoWriMo Planning & Preparation post, this whole month is about getting to the finish line and finishing that first draft. Every scene does not need to be perfect! Focusing on quick scene plotting and word sprints really helps me move faster through the draft by working hard on individual scenes but not getting bogged down in ones that aren’t working as well as I might like them to. This was a great strategy that worked well for me today, so I’ll carry it through to tomorrow’s writing session. I vlogged my writing session today, if you want a closer look at the work I did today, as well as my writing space. I will be uploading that vlog onto my YouTube channel in a day or so – keep an eye out for that.
Even though I cranked out more than 3,000 words today, I am still behind schedule since I wasted three days this week. I am currently 3,787 words behind schedule, which is not as bad as it was yesterday. My goal tomorrow is to get all caught up, but I also don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. No matter what happens, I am very proud of the work that I have done so far and the sheer number of words that I have managed to crank out. I am really hitting my stride with this book and it feels amazing!
