If you’ve been following me for awhile then you know that I participated in NaNoWriMo last year and I started my very first novel in that month. Since then, I’ve written roughly 70,000 words and I’m almost done with the first draft of my very first novel! I am so proud of the work that I have put into this story so far, but I am also very eager to finish a solid first draft so that I can move onto the fun stuff – editing.
NaNoWriMo is typically the time that you start a new project and aim to write 50,000 words in a month. However, instead of starting a new project my NaNoWriMo 2018 writing goal is to finish this first draft so that I can edit it, use it to query literary agents, and then hopefully send it out to publishers (who will hopefully want to publish it! *fingers crossed*). I think the book will be about 100,000 words total, which means I just have to write 30,000 words in a month – easy, right?
I want to take you all with me on this journey for the next month as I push to finish the first draft of this book. I’ll be posting periodic updates on my social media accounts, but I’m also trying something new – a weekly Newsletter. If you want to stay in the loop as I strive to finish this draft of my very first book then sign up for my Newsletter:
Either way, I want to share this experience with each and every one of you because you all have helped me get this far – let’s make it to the end together as well!
Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? There’s still time to sign up (today is the last day)! Sign up here: https://nanowrimo.org/. If you are participating in #NaNoWriMo2018, then add me as your buddy (SEDunawayBooks) and check out my blog posts from last year for helpful tips and tools to get you ready to write.
Happy NaNoWriMo 2018! And may the word count be ever in your favor!
